PREP ROUNDUP: Indians open district 1-0 on road with quick start

LIVINGSTON — A new district season began Tuesday, and Port Neches-Groves started it right.

The Indians raced to a 21-8 lead through one quarter and finished with four players in double figures Tuesdayy to pick up a 72-51 win over Livingston.

The Indians, who led 33-15 at halftime, never lost control of the game. In fact, they outscored the Lions 27-17 in the third quarter.

Drake Rojas had 19 points to lead PNG. Trent Lee added 15, Edsel Damo 14 and Tracy Smith 10.

Josh Staples led Livingston with 18.

PNG will step out of district play and take on Kelly on Friday night in Beaumont.

B’MONT CENTRAL 58, NEDERLAND 37

NEDERLAND — So far, Beaumont ISD teams have not been kind to the Bulldogs.

Nederland (15-3, 0-1 in 22-5A) dropped its second straight game to a team from Beaumont ISD and its first District 22-5A game of the season, falling by 21 points to the reigning district co-champion Jaguars.

Nederland, which had won 12 straight before back-to-back losses, could not get much offense going, trailing 27-18 at the half. Hayden Hefner finished with 15 points and added six rebounds for Nederland.

Byron Arceneaux scored a game-high 17 points for Central (6-4, 1-0).

The Bulldogs will play in the Barbers Hill tournament beginning Dec. 28.

BRIDGE CITY 59, SABINE PASS 42

SABINE PASS — A 21-9 first-quarter deficit at home was a little too much for the Sharks (6-4) to overcome.

Hunter Wiegreffe made 10 of 14 shots from the floor and finished with 22 points in leading the Cardinals. Daniel Sam led the Sharks with 22 points and Harold James added 10.

Sabine Pass will host East Chambers to close a three-game home stand Thursday.
