ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Kyla Green scored 12 points for Lamar, but the Cardinals couldn’t overcome a three-point barrage from the host New Mexico Lobos in a 90-58 loss at Dreamstyle Arena on Wednesday night.
The Lobos (12-1), who improved to 10-0 on their home court this season, drained 15 three-pointers on the night, most of those coming from Tesha Buck, who was 10 of 16 from downtown en route to a career-high 40-point performance.
The Lobos, who entered the game ranked 11th in the nation with an average of 10 three-pointers per game, exceeded that figure in the first half, as they went 11 of 24 (45.8 percent) from beyond the arc over the first two quarters. Overall, New Mexico shot 60 percent (21-of-35) from the field in the first half.
New Mexico led 26-16 after one quarter and 54-29 at halftime.
The Cardinals (5-5) shot just 28.4 percent (23 of 81) from the field. Jadyn Pimentel and Chastadie Barrs added nine points apiece for LU. Barrs had five steals in the game. Barrs, who has at least one steal in all 71 career games, now has 329 steals for her career, four shy of the LU mark of 333 set by Ramona Jones.
LU takes a break for the Christmas holiday before opening Southland Conference play with a pair of road contests. The Cardinals are at Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. Dec. 28 and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 5 p.m. Dec. 30. LU’s next home game is 7 p.m. Jan. 3 vs. New Orleans.
