Artholia “Black” Polk

Mrs. Artholia “Black” Polk of Port Arthur passed away Wednesday at home surrounded by loved ones. A native of Olivier, Louisiana, she was a proud resident of Port Arthur for 68 years and a longtime member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She liked to cook, sew and play cards. Artholia will be remembered as a devoted, loving and supportive wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.
A visitation is scheduled from 9 am until 11 am Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Parish with the funeral services following immediately, officiated by Reverend Mark Thomas Ameh, M.S.P. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
Survivors include her six children, Carolyn Polk, James Polk, Sr. and James Polk, Jr. all of Port Arthur, Mary Newsome-Haywood, Karen Berry and Jonathan Polk of the Dallas area, sister Earline Thomas of Houston, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Allen Polk, her parents Tanas and Elouise Frand, and seven siblings.
