Virginia Boorman McCoy
Mrs. Virginia Boorman McCoy, 91, of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, passed away with family by her side on Wednesday, the 13th of December 2017, in Houston.
Virginia was born on the 5th of March 1926, in Terrell, Texas. She graduated from North Texas State University and was a proud member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She also obtained a master’s degree in education from the University of Houston and went on to teach elementary school for forty years—all within Port Neches Groves School District. She was an inspiration to her many students and mentor to many colleagues.
She retired in Horseshoe Bay and was a regular volunteer at Seton Hospital, active member of The Church at Horseshoe Bay, and avid bridge player. She was a selfless person who never met a stranger and loved her family dearly.
Her family loved her too and will miss her very much. She is survived by her two daughters, Becky Boorman Brown and her husband Jean, and Jackie Murphy and her husband Derris; her two grandchildren, Jennifer McCormick and her husband George, and David Wood and his wife Cabell; and her five great-grandchildren, Mills, Colin, and Brooke McCormick and Walker and Sutherland Wood.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from two o’clock until four o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 17th of December, in the parlor and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The funeral service is to be conducted at noon on Monday, the 18th of December, in the Jasek chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, where a reception with the family is to immediately follow in the adjacent grand foyer.
Interment is to follow, via an escorted cortège, at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in her name be directed to The Church at Horseshoe Bay, 600 Hi Ridge Road, Horseshoe Bay, Texas 78657; or to the charity of one’s choice.
