A man has died after he reportedly tried to cross a busy road and was struck by a vehicle.

Police were flagged down in the 4400 block of Gulfway Drive down shortly after 6 p.m. Friday. Officers called EMS after finding the victim had serious injuries.

The victim, Daniel Jones, 53, was transported to St. Mary Hospital and was pronounced deceased, according to a press release from the Port Arthur Police Department.

Police determined the victim was walking across Gulfway Drive and the driver of the vehicle did not see him due to the low light and the pedestrian’s dark clothing. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

PAPD’s Criminal Investigation Division is handling the incident.
