ID made on suspected Nederland ring thief

A suspect in a Nederland jewelry store ring theft has been identified as a 52-year-old Houston man.

The man, whose name has not been released, is at large at the time and formal felony theft charges will be filed in the near future, according to a press release from the Nederland Police Department.

The incident occurred around 1:36 p.m. at Keith’s Custom Jewelry, 2111 Nederland Ave. on Nov. 27. The suspect, described as a heavy set black male, entered the store and asked to look at a ring. Once the clerk handed him the ring, he fled the store and left in a late model Jeep.

A check on the statewide pawnshop database indicted that the suspect had pawned the ring later that same day at a pawnshop in Groves. The ring has been positively identified as the same ring that was stolen in the theft.
