Kennerson reaches 1,000-point mark with career high

Port Arthur native Joyce Kennerson knocked down a career high of 35 points and eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career Wednesday night, leading Texas Southern to a 77-58 win over Sam Houston State in Huntsville.

Kennerson, a junior, shot 13 of 18 from the field, including 5 of 8 from three-point range. She also had five assists and a career-high eight steals.

Kennerson made a three with 4:31 left in the second quarter to give her 1,001 career points. She now has 1,016, ranking eighth on Texas Southern’s all-time scoring list. She passed Sybil Reddick, who scored 995 points from 1980-84.

Texas Southern (2-4) led Sam Houston State (1-3) 20-4 after one period and 43-24 at halftime.
