MONT BELVIEU — Kyler Duhon knocked down a three-point basket as time expired, giving Barbers Hill a 49-46 win over Port Neches-Groves on Tuesday.
A 17-5 second-quarter burst seemed to give PNG (1-2) plenty of momentum and allowed the Indians to go into halftime 28-21, but Barbers Hill clawed back with a 12-7 third quarter and a 16-11 final period.
Drake Rojas scored 13 points to lead the Indians. Max Armer of Barbers Hill led all scorers with 16, followed by Duhon with 12.
PNG will take on Alvin at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Nederland Bulldog Classic. That game will not affect bracket play.
CY FALLS 77, MEMORIAL 68
CYPRESS — Thailan Wesley had another 20-point output Tuesday, but Port Arthur Memorial dropped its second straight game to Cypress Falls.
Jamyus Jones added 17 points for Memorial (3-2), who trailed 38-34 at the break. The Titans next play in the Clear Creek tournament.
GIRLS
WEST BROOK 48, MEMORIAL 42
In Port Arthur, the Titans (1-6) found some balanced scoring and shot 40 percent from three-point range, but struggles at the foul line did them in against West Brook on Tuesday.
Memorial converted only 6 of 15 from the foul line but had a pair of nine-point games from Dakayla Miller and Julia Sion. Jackie Gibbs scored eight.
West Brook won despite shooting 4 for 21 in free throws.
Memorial will take on Fort Bend Elkins at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Beaumont ISD/Young Men’s Business League tournament at the Montagne Center.
