Southland names Kinard player of week

BEAUMONT – Lamar junior guard Moe Kinard was named the Southland Conference women’s basketball player of the week, the Southland office announced Monday.

Kinard averaged 22.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game as the Cardinals went 2-1 on the week. Kinard capped her week with a double-double in a 90-80 win over Northern Illinois at the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic, finishing with 30 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. For the season, Kinard leads the Cardinals in scoring at 17.8 points per game, and is third in rebounding with an average of 5.4 boards per contest.

It’s the second time in her career that Kinard, last season’s Southland Conference newcomer of the year, has earned SLC player of the week honors.

The Cardinals (4-3) travel to Stockton, California, to meet the Pacific Tigers (3-2) at 9 p.m. Thursday. LU’s next home game is 7 p.m. Dec. 4 vs. Schreiner.
