In just his second game with Port Arthur Memorial, the former Sabine Pass standout graced the Titans’ home court for the first time and scored 33 Saturday in an 87-58 win over Houston Scarborough. Jones knocked down eight three-point baskets in helping Memorial start 2-0 on the season.

“Jamyus Jones gave energy and effort on both ends of the court,” Memorial assistant coach Antonio Cooper said. “Jones was able to apply pressure defensively and offensive with his speed. We had a combined total of 13 three-pointers made against Scarborough.”

And the outside shooting played a big part in keeping the Spartans at bay. Scarborough was down 25-11 through one quarter but made a charge in the second half to pull within 40-32 at the break.

Memorial then outscored Scarborough 29-14 in the third frame.

Darion Chatman added 14 points in the win.

Memorial will visit Houston Lamar on Wednesday.
