City of Nederland planning for a smoother ride around town

NEDERLAND — A large portion of the streets in the city of Nederland are scheduled for repair for Fiscal Year 2017-2018.
The Nederland City Council approved the repairs at their regular meeting on Monday afternoon.
The adopted FY 2017-2018 budget allocated $1.276 million for the 2017-2018 Street Program budget, according to City Manager Chris Duque.
The proposed Streets Program is divided into three main components: BOMAG/chip seal projects, concrete repairs and hot mix overlays/resurfacing.
The projects will cost $1.7 million.
Larry Graves and Rob Woods in the public works department developed a list of streets in most need of repair they will work with Jefferson County’s assistance.
Last year, Jefferson County requested $20,000 to contribute toward roadwork; this year, $20,000 has been allocated assuming the same request will be made by the county.
Those streets are to be BOMAG’ed and chip seal with width, length and cost included:
26th- Detroit to Gary 20- feet wide, 825-feet long for $ 8,926
28th- West Chicago to Gary 20-feet wide, 800-feet long for $ 8,656
West Chicago- 27th to 28th 20-feet wide, 800-feet long for $ 8,656
32nd- Canal to Seattle 20-feet wide, 975-feet long for $10,549
34th-Canal to Seattle 20-feet wide, 975-feet long for $10,549
Seattle- 18th to dead-end 20-feet wide, 950-feet long for $10,279
Gary- 15th to dead-end 20-feet wide, 280-feet long for $ 3,029
Elgin- 15th to 17th 20-feet wide, 1,000-feet long for $10,820
Boston- 21st to dead-end 20-feet wide, 1,400-feet long for $15,148
10th- Boston to Helena 20-feet wide, 1,850-feet long for $20,017
8th- Nederland Ave to Boston 20-feet wide, 700-feet long for $ 7,574
4th- Boston to dead end 20-feet wide, 525-long for $ 5,680
Marshall- 15th to 12th 20-feet wide, 1,575-feet long for $17,041
Ave K- South 14th to Hwy. 347 20-feet wide, 1,000-feet long for $10,820
Ave B- South 21st to South 20th 20-feet wide, 330-feet long for $ 3,570
Ave G- South 21st to dead-end 20-feet wide, 525-feet long for $ 5,680
Ave B- South 32nd to South 37th 20-feet wide, 1,800-feet long for $19,476
South 29th- Ave H to Ave G 20-feet wide, 285-feet long for $ 3,083
Duque said $350,000 is allocated for concrete repairs. Graves and Woods indicated the focus will be repair/replace existing curb and gutters and then resurface the roads.
Those streets to have concrete-ribbon gutter with replacement road and linear feet curb are:
28th – West Chicago to Gary 700-feet and 1,400-feet
West Chicago – 28th to 27th 700-feet and 1,400-feet
26th – Gary to Chicago 825-feet and 1,650-feet
South 14th – Ave C to Ave H 1,400-feet and 2,800-feet
South 15th – From 300 block to Ave H 1,300-feet and 2,600-feet
Total linear feet are 4,925-feet and 9,850-feet.
Furthermore, $1,025,000 is allocated for hot mix overlay/re-surfacing project. Graves and Woods recommended addressing Holmes Road from Beauxart Garden Road to the concrete, 14th Street from the concrete at the 500 block to Helena Avenue, 15th from Nederland Avenue to Helena Avenue, South 14th from Nederland Avenue to Avenue H, and South 17th from Nederland Avenue to Avenue E.
Staff is still finalizing a recommendation to add another street to the list.
The hot mix width with length and notes are:
Holmes- Beauxart Garden Road to concrete 20-feet and 2,850-feet, Bomag’ed in 2017
14th – from concrete at the 500 block to Helena Avenue 20-feet and 1,050-feet, mill and overlay
15th – Nederland Avenue to Helena 20-feet and 2,650-feet, mill and overlay
South 14th – Nederland Avenue to Avenue H 20-feet and 2,800-feet, pending curb repair
Mill and overlay are:
South 17th – Nederland Avenue to Avenue E 20-feet and 1,450-feet, Bomag’ed in 2017
22nd – Canal Street to Helena Avenue 20-feet and 2,650-feet, mill and overlay
Total linear feet are 13,450.
Lastly, the 2017-2018 Streets Program includes $50,000 for street striping.
Street striping road in linear feet are:
27th Street – Helena Avenue to Hwy. 365 is 8,150-feet
Avenue H – Hwy. 69 to Hwy. 347 is 9,550-feet
