Exactly two years ago, Ethan White experienced one of the greatest losses of his young life. One of his closest friends, Jeremiah Gonzalez, died after being in a school bus accident.

White decided that in remembrance of that loss, he would ensure a win for Lamar State College Port Arthur on Wednesday night. He dominated the court at the Carl Parker Center and at the final buzzer, the Seahawks claimed an 85-49 non-conference victory over Lone Star College-Cy Fair.

“This one tonight is for Jeremiah,” White said after the game. “I came here to do something in his honor, on the anniversary of his death. Every basket tonight was for him.”

White scored 17 points to lead the Seahawks . After the game, he quickly traded his No. 15 jersey for a t-shirt that memorialized his friend. Gonzalez, a football standout at East Central High School in San Antonio, was killed in a school bus accident that also took the life of another student.

“When I was on B-team in football, he always pushed me to do better. When I made the A-team varsity, it was all for him,” White said. “I never got the chance to say goodbye to him.”

White was on fire on the court Wednesday night, hitting 4 of 4 from beyond the three-point line and 6 of 9 from the field overall. He also had two rebounds and a steal.

The Seahawks needed a strong showing after they dropped back-to-back decisions during the Texas East-West Tournament in Dallas over the weekend. Fired up and ready to get back on track, the Hawks charged out to a 17-2 lead after just four minutes of the first half.

White did his damage on offense early as did teammates TyQuan Marshall, who had 13 points, and Alex Williams, who had 10 with a team-best five assists.

Matej Gaspert finished with just three points in the game but did his best work in the paint on the defensive end, finishing with 13 boards there and 14 overall.

The Seahawks also got eight points each from Kolbe Littlefield and Travious Grubbs. Littlefield was active all night, adding four assists and two blocked shots.

The Seahawks take the weekend off but return to play Lone Star College-Tomball next Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Carl Parker Center.
