Ruth Etta Spain

Ruth Etta Spain answered the Master’s call on Oct. 26, 2017 at Dallas, Texas where she had been temporarily relocated due to the devastation of her home in Port Arthur from Hurricane Harvey. Ruth Etta was born to the parentage of R. C. Mullin, Sr. and Marion Ruth Gaston Mullin on January 27, 1955 in Beaumont, Texas. She became a resident of Port Arthur during her elementary school years and attended PAISD schools, graduating from her beloved Lincoln High School in 1973. She matriculated at the University of Houston and received the Bachelor of Arts degree in 1977. During her collegiate experience she pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at U of H.

Ruth was an active member of First Sixth Street Baptist Church during her youth serving in the Concord Choir and Youth Ushers and as an adult served as the Musician for the Male Chorus. She also sang with her late sister, Rose Mary and late mother in several female Gospel Singing groups. She remained a faithful member of First Sixth Street Baptist Church until her demise.

Professionally Ruth Etta worked in the Port Arthur ISD as a classroom teacher and Administrator; retiring after many, many years of dedicated service to the students whom she loved as her own children.  She also held membership in Phi Delta Kappa Education Sorority and the distinction of being a Charter member in the Port Arthur Chapter.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 11:00 AM at First Sixth Street Baptist Church with Rev. Kalon Gardner officiating and Rev. Thurman Bartie being the eulogist. Interment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Park; final arrangements entrusted to Hannah Funeral Home, Inc.

She is survived by her son Wille Sarden, Jr,  brothers Ernest Jones and R.C. Mullin, Jr. and a host of other relative and friends.
