Frances M. Ferrell-Huber went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 10, 2017.  She was 95 years old.  She was born May 26, 1922, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to Rufus and Lois (Gillbin) Massey.  During her childhood, they moved to Port Arthur, Texas where she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, a member of the Red Hussars Drum and Bugle Corps, and attended Port Arthur Business College.

Fran married Fred Ferrell in 1941 and was a devoted wife until his death in 1980.  She later married George P. Huber, Jr. in 1982 and they enjoyed their life together until his death in 2012.

Fran served in many capacities throughout her life. She was an active member of her church and her community. Some will remember her as a writer for the Port Neches Chronicle, which she co-founded. Others knew her as a teacher and counselor for the Episcopal Diocese of Texas. In those years, she was most proud of the huge impact she had on the spiritual growth of the youth involved in those programs. The community will recall her work for the Appraisal District, where she served in an administrative role. Her neighbors in Port Neches will remember the wonderful home Bible study group she hosted as she bonded with friends and family, celebrating the Word. Later in life, as a resident of Pelican Bay Assisted Living Facility, she continued to teach in her weekly women’s Bible study.

Fran’s commitment to her faith was a driving force, one that stood as a true testament to living the life God had planned and touching many lives along the way.  She was tenacious and inspirational, with a smile that was an undeniable sign of her true spirit. The light she brought to this world is too strong to be extinguished, and it will live on in a rosary of love created from the lives of each person she impacted. The greatest end to a life well-lived is the legacy of hope and joy she has left for all of us to share.

In addition to her husbands, she is preceded in death by her brother, Gilbert Massey, and her son, Reg Ferrell.  She is survived by her sisters, Lois Streetman, Margret Dupuis and Peggy Gray, son Mike Ferrell (Susan), granddaughters Falicia Cartwright (Craig), Amberley Tanner (Roddy), Jessica Boehlke (Tim), three great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who knew her affectionately as Aunt Frank.

The family would like to thank the staff and all those who cared for Fran at Pelican Bay Assisted Living Community in Beaumont, Texas and during her final days at Riva Ridge Memory Care and Assisted Living in Leander, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., November 4, 2017 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 2425 Nall Street, Port Neches, Texas.  A reception at the church will follow the service.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Fred Ferrell Memorial Fund at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 2425 Nall Street, Port Neches, Texas 77651.
