A Facebook post on the Port Arthur ISD page Wednesday morning led to some concerns that led to a campus lockdown until the incident was handled.

The post read: “Please know that students from Memorial 10-12 campus were instructed to Shelter-in-Place for a brief period of time due to an anonymous call of a possible shooting that would take place on the campus.

Students who may have been involved have been apprehended away from the campus and no weapons were found in their possession.

Students from Memorial High School Grades 10-12 were not ever in any imminent danger.”

Glenn Mitchell, principal of MHS, said there was no shooting and a Shelter-in-Place was enacted on campus.

“It was a prank call from a disgruntled student,” Mitchell said. “He was apprehended because of the call by the Port Arthur Police.”

He said there was no imminent threat of danger to the students nor has he heard any students on campus becoming overly excited because of the incident.

“We had a safe and secure environment and all is fine. The student was caught 30 minutes after he called,” he said.

Concerned parents who called the school were apprised of the situation.
