Jorge Lopez waited six years for Nederland to experience another team tennis area round victory.

Thursday’s win over Fort Bend Elkins made the end to the wait pretty sweet for the longtime Bulldogs’ coach.

“This team was really good, better than us,” Lopez said. “We just played incredible doubles and pulled a few wins in singles.”

Nederland won the match 11-8 and will play again Tuesday in the regional quarterfinals, with opponent, time and date to be determined. The Bulldogs did the job by sweeping their girls doubles, taking two of three boys doubles and winning the mixed doubles.

Elkins was strong in boys doubles, winning four of six. Tommy Hoang and Jarrett Atterberry were winners for Nederland.

Hoang paired with Alex Luketich and Dwight Lewis teamed with Zach Buff to win three-set battles.

Atterberry earned another win with Anoosha Adtani in the mixed doubles match.

Jayci Wong, Nhi Huynh and Han Vo won girls singles for Nederland in straight sets. Grace Rigby and Wong, Hannah Abdulah and Huynh and Joanna Burce and Vo earned the girls doubles wins.

“I guess on taking the negative with the positive, having four courts and being able to just practice doubles most of the time because of lack of room paid off,” Lopez said.
