Mid-County to begin final debris sweep

The third and final pass for Harvey related debris in the Mid-County cities of Port Neches, Nederland and Groves is right around the corner and city officials are working to notify residents.
Residents of those cities are asked to place their storm related debris by the curb in the city right of way by Oct. 23. Due to liability concerns, city trash trucks and DRC equipment cannot go onto private property to push the debris to the curb, according to information from the cities.
“The intent is to afford citizens in all three of the Mid-County cities a couple of weekends to try and remove debris and place it to the curb,” Port Neches City Manager Andre Wimer said.
The debris piles should be separated: green waste such as limbs, leaves and vegetation; spoiled food and household garbage; structural and building materials such as drywall, lumber, carpet and furniture; appliances; electronics and household hazardous materials.
“We started without a week picking up debris after the storm and coordinated with contractors so work would start quickly,” Wimer said. “We have certainly experienced bumps along the way as some subcontractors left to work in other cities.”
Not long after Harvey flooded the area, Florida experienced Hurricane Irma triggering the need for debris contractors.
