Authorities find driver dead from crash, passenger dead from gunshot wound

Authorities are investigating a one-vehicle crash wherein one man died from the crash and another died from a gunshot wound.

At approximately 4 a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 90 in Jefferson County.

The crash occurred just West of Meeker Road.
Initial reports indicate that a Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling westbound on Highway 90. For an unknown reason, the driver traveled off the roadway and struck several trees.
The driver, 21-year-old Jacob Ferrill of Beaumont, was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries. Ferrill was not wearing a seatbelt.
The passenger, a 23-year-old male from Beaumont, was pronounced deceased at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound.
DPS and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are in the preliminary stages of this investigation.
