PORT NECHES — Amy Morgan is a proud member of Delta Life Fitness, a place where the ladies there are like family.
A member since March, Morgan joined other members as well as staff to celebrate a ribbon cutting for the newest location — strategically located at 2420 Port Neches Ave. in Port Neches and just a hop, skip and a jump from Nederland on Thursday.
“I’ve never been an unhealthy person but I saw the need (to join) for my child and my husband,” Morgan said. “Some people say that once you start working out you’ll love it and I didn’t until I came here. There’s no judgment. It’s all ladies. They have every age and walk of life walk through this door. Old and young, which makes it even more comfortable.”
Delta Life Fitness isn’t new. Three years ago classes were held in a warehouse on U.S. 69 near Nederland before it was even a franchise. Franchise owner Josh Cherry, who has 22 fitness centers across the country, said this ribbon cutting was super special because he is from the Mid-County area.
To serve and empower women is the mission of Delta and are made to fit the busy mom’s schedule. Child care is available and the fitness center is up to date with technology.
“Back in the day gyms would try to get people to write in journals,” Cherry said referring to keeping track of exercise. “Now, there’s a TV in the lobby with a leaderboard. Every woman in the gym can link to it with a Fitbit or app. We use technology to help women reach those goals.”
Gym manager Jenna Vincent said most of the members are from 30 to 55 years old and modifications are available for every single workout.
“It’s built for the mom on the go. You can burn 700 to 900 calories in a workout and we do high intensity intervals,” Vincent said. “We want to change lives.”
