PREP ROUNDUP: PNG moves to 8-0 in 22-5A volleyball

BEAUMONT — Nothing seems to slow down Port Neches-Groves in volleyball.
The Rock-A-Noos moved to 8-0 in District 22-5A on Tuesday after issuing a 25-7, 25-17, 25-18 sweep of Ozen. That was one night after PNG won at Port Arthur Memorial 25-10, 25-11, 25-12.

Against Ozen, Rachel Hammersmith totaled 23 assists for PNG (21-5 overall). She and Libbie LeJeune led in service points with 13 and 14, while Kaitlyn Gil finished with 14 digs and LeJeune totaled 13.
Gil was strong on offense as well with 14 kills. Elizabeth Bolyard added nine and Layla Stansbury had eight.

Tuesday marked the end of eight district matches in 11 days for each team. The Rock-A-Noos return to action Friday at Vidor, as teams will play on a Tuesday-Friday schedule the rest of the regular season.

LUMBERTON 3, NEDERLAND 0
LUMBERTON — A day after sweeping Ozen, Nederland (16-11, 5-3 in 22-5A) took a step back in its district championship chase.

Peyton Smith led Nederland with 12 digs against Lumberton. Meg Sheppard scored three aces, six kills and four digs; Abbey Montalvo had an ace, eight kills and nine assists; and Kameron Cuniff, Haley Plumley and Karley McGill each totaled five kills.

The Bulldogs beat Ozen 25-17, 27-25, 25-21 on Monday behind Smith’s 16 digs and Montalvo’s 10 assists, nine kills, seven digs and three aces.
Next for Nederland is a match at Beaumont Central on Friday.

LIVINGSTON 3, MEMORIAL 0
In Port Arthur, Memorial was swept for the second straight evening and fell to 14-10 and 3-5 in 22-5A.
