Our lovely mother passed away peacefully after suffering a stroke.  She was the epitome of style and grace and will be remembered for her hospitality and charm.

Nancy was born in Dallas, TX, to Edward and Ruby Walker, graduated from North Dallas High, then earned her Bachelor of Science in Interior Design at the University of Texas in Austin, participating in Alpha Chi Omega sorority and the Orange Jackets.

Upon graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Carl Wallrath.  They moved to Port Arthur, Texas where she began raising her family.  She was a leader in the local art community and volunteered for the Service League and her church.  She also earned her teaching credential, teaching in elementary schools.

In 1979, the family moved to Houston, Texas, where Nancy began her career as an interior designer.  She earned her ASID credential (American Society of Interior Designers) and volunteered in the local ASID chapter.  She also continued as a substitute teacher and as a community and church volunteer.

In 1985, the family moved to Walnut Creek, CA, where Nancy continued her career in interior design as a partner in a local studio. She continued to lead in the local ASID chapter, serving as president in 2002-2003. In later years, she taught design and business at Las Positas Community College. 

She had many passions in life in addition to art, especially gardening, literature, theater, travel and all things Texas.  She also enjoyed actively participating in her grandchildren’s lives. 

In 1997, Nancy lost her beloved husband of forty years, Carl.  She is survived by her loving children Nan Musso (Steve), Laura Wallrath, Claire Collins Zybert (David), and Guy Wallrath (Kathy), and grandchildren Jay, John, Marissa, Ellie, Cade, and Amy.  Her legacy includes instilling in us a love of beauty, classical design, and history.
