James Earl Green

James Earl Green, 79, of Groves, Texas passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur.

James was born August 23, 1938 in Malvern, Arkansas to Ernest E. and Opal A. Johnson Green. He was a lifelong resident of the Port Arthur and Groves area.

He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Groves, Texas where he was a former Deacon and also served in many organizations and held many offices there. He also was a member of the Groves Masonic Lodge No. 1315 A.F.

He graduated from Port Neches High School in 1956 and was a 1970 graduate of Lamar University with a BBA degree in General Business.

He was a previous employee of the Atlantic Food Store in Groves, First National Bank of Port Arthur, Mid County Bank and Trust in Port Neches and was Business Manager for the Port Neches-Groves ISD and retired from there in 2002 after 17 years of service. After retirement, he helped start Texas Autoworks Collision Center in Bridge City along with his son-in-law, Zarron LaBarge, and was the Vice President for 15 years.

He proudly served in Company B, 111th Engineer Battalion of the Texas National Guard for eight years. He was registered in Texas as a Tax Assessor-Collector and held a Texas Real Estate License.

He loved traveling, especially going camping and taking Caravan Bus Tours with his wife to different states in the United States.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bobby Jane Woodham all of Groves, TX and daughter-in-law Holly Williams of Joshua, TX.

He was blessed to be called husband by his loving wife of 35 years, Sue Ann Green, who he lovingly called “Sue Sue”. He was blessed to be called Dad by son, David E. Green and wife Tina, daughter Amanda S. LaBarge and husband Zarron, both of Orange, TX; and step-son Gregory M. Williams of Joshua, TX. He was also blessed to be called Paw Paw James by his four grandchildren, Lacey and Taylor Williams of Arlington, TX and Charlie and James Williams of Joshua, TX. He was also survived by sister Cheryl L. Neel and husband Carl of Port Neches, TX, brothers Bob D. Green and wife Delores of Groves, TX, Steve A. Green and wife Margaret of Buna, TX, and Raymond Green and wife Angie of Crosby, TX and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be Friday, September 29, 2017 from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, 3417 Berry, Groves, Texas.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Church with Reverend Travis Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.
