Bert O. Butaud

Bert O. Butaud, 90, of Hemphill, Texas passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Hemphill Care Center.

Mr. Butaud was born August 6, 1927 in Port Arthur, Texas to Nolan and Flora Bell Bebarge Dreyer. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II and later earned his master’s degree in Houston, Texas. He had earned football scholarships and played for both Lamar University and North Texas State University. He later went in to education where he was a football coach and an Assistant Principal for Port Arthur ISD.

Mr. Butaud retired from Port Arthur ISD and moved to the Fairmount Community. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hemphill and an avid tennis player.

He is survived by his son, Mike Butaud and wife, Carla, of Fairmount; brother, George Dreyer of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren, Wade, Kyle, and Katie, all of Utah; two great grandchildren, Kayli and Conner, also of Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Butaud; daughter, Patricia Butaud; and brother, Lloyd Butaud.

Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 7, 2017 in Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Starr Funeral Home with Bro. Grant Barnes and Bro. Bo Owens officiating.
