Motiva shuts down Port Arthur refinery

Flooding Tuesday night and early today forced the shutdown of the nation’s largest U.S. crude refinery in Port Arthur.
As Motiva Enterprises’ 603,000 barrel-per-day plant goes idle, approximately 19.6 percent of the nation’s refining capacity has been shut down due to Tropical Storm Harvey.
The company reported that at 5 a.m. today the began a controlled shutdown of the facility due to flooding conditions.
Exxon Mobil’s Beaumont refinery as well as Total and Valero Energy’s Port Arthur refineries have also been shut down due to the storm.
