Mary Lee Nurse was called home by our Heavenly Father Saturday, August 19, 2017.  She was born September 23, 1937 to the proud parents Azar and Chlorene Jones George in Lafayette, LA.  She was a resident of Port Arthur for 61 years.  Mary was employed at St. Mary Catholic School Cafeteria as the supervisor for 10 years, before opening Nurse’s Diner and serving her community for 25 years.  She was known for her delicious gumbo, oxtails, liver, gizzards and homemade stuffed shrimp.  Mary won many contests and awards for her famous gumbo.

Mary Lee, as she was called, was a faithful member of Sacred Heart-St. Mary Parish Church, where she was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court #32 and former member of Court #182. 

Mary Lee is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifton A. Nurse; two brothers Ernest and Horace George; three sisters, Annie Noel, Gerde Livings and Cora Lee Guidry.

She leaves to cherish precious memories her four children, Cynthia M. Lambert, Wilbert Lambert, Jr. (Sally), Nolan C. Nurse (Anita) and Mary D. Nurse; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Sacred Heart-St. Mary Parish Church with visitation from 8 a.m. until service time.  The rosary will be recited at 9
