Stroud misses cut at Wyndham

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Chris Stroud was headed back to Houston on Friday after missing the 36-hole cut in the Wyndham Championship.

Stroud, after a first-day 71, shot a two-under par 68 in Friday’s round. His 36-hole total of 139 missed the cut by two shots.

Coming on the heels of a tie for ninth in the PGA Championship, the week after his first tour victory in the Barracuda Championship, it was not all that surprising for Stroud to miss the cut. It was his seventh consecutive tournament, and he said going in he was mentally and physically worn down.

Stroud will return to action next week for the opening round of the FedEx Cup playoffs in the Northern Trust Open at Glen Oaks CC in Westbury, New York. At No. 69 in FedEx points, Stroud is assured of playing in the first two rounds of the playoffs.

To advance to the third round he would still have to be within the top 70 in points at the second playoff stop at the TPC of Boston.
