Mrs. Gladys Charles, lifelong resident of Port Arthur, Texas, passed away in her home on Saturday, July 29, 2017. She was primarily a mother and housewife, but worked for brief periods at Blanton Cleaners and Luby’s in Jefferson City Shopping Mall. She was a Catholic by faith and graduate of Sacred Heart High School. She was active in the Jill’s Social Club for many years, where she served as President and Secretary during her membership. She was also a member of the Seamen’s Wives’ Civic & Social Club.

A visitation is scheduled from 6 P.M. until 9 P.M., Friday, August 18th at Gabriel Funeral Home in the Main Chapel. Funeral Service is scheduled for 10 A.M., Saturday, August 19th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Sampson Etim, MSP officiating. Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.

Gladys is resting in paradise with her husband (Clifton Charles), daughter (Katherine), son (Ezzard), and great grandson (Darrin Sostand, Jr). She was also preceded in death by her parents (Cornelius & Mary Washington), two sisters (Joann Gray and Gloria Clark-Dyer), and one brother (Cornelius “Junior Boy” Washington, Jr).

Survivors include nine daughters: Cynthia Rosignon (Houston-Herbert Frazier), Alfreda Gibson (Missouri City-Kevin), Ruby Gay (Robert), Sophia Charles Baker, Sylvia Charles, Leslie Alpough (Houston), Mona Lisa Charles Davis (Lafayette, Louisiana-Johnathan), Kathleen Darnell (Lafayette, Louisiana), and Twylia Charles; three sons: Darryl Charles, Michael Charles, Joshua Charles (Castaic, California-Schyvonne); one sister: Mary Ann Roy; three first cousins: Archie Levine, Emma Thornton, and James Washington; 27 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
