ROCK-A-NOOS FINISH SECOND IN HUFFMAN

HUFFMAN — Port Neches-Groves closed out pool play against the host team of an early-season tournament here and won a second match to reach the championship round.
The Rock-A-Noos settled for second place, however, after former District 22-5A rival Goose Creek Memorial beat PNG 25-20, 25-14 in the Gold bracket of the Huffman Hargrave tournament.
PNG (6-2) beat Hargrave 25-18, 25-19 earlier Saturday. Hargrave had defeated GCM earlier in the tournament.
Against Hargrave, Libbie LeJeune scored 11 service points, had eight digs and made four kills. Rachel Hammersmith connected for 14 assists, Kaitlyn Gil totaled 11 kills and Elizabeth Bolyard finished with eight kills.
In a 25-9, 25-20 rout of Caney Creek, Baylee Priddy had 15 service aces and 12 assists, LeJeune dug nine and scored seven service points and Gil totaled 13 kills. Gil killed seven against GCM.
PNG was coming off a 25-11, 25-14, 25-16 win over Silsbee on Friday.
West Brook will visit PNG on Tuesday.
