NEDERLAND — Just like her volleyball team, Allie Crommett is 1-0 as a head coach.
Nederland opened its season at home Tuesday with a 25-21, 25-16, 25-14 win over Orangefield in Crommett’s debut at the helm. Abbey Montalvo led the way with 22 assists and nine service points, Peyton Smith had 13 digs and six service points and Hannah Hickey added 10 kills and two blocks.
Nederland will open play at a three-day tournament in Woodville on Thursday and host Hardin-Jefferson next Tuesday.

MEMORIAL 3, CHAVEZ 0
HOUSTON — The way Port Arthur Memorial volleyball coach Bianca Dixon put it: “It is beautiful to start 1-0.”
For the second year in a row, 5A Memorial opened the season with a victory, defeating 6A Houston Chavez 25-20, 25-20, 25-14.
For the winning Titans, Nayla Bazile had 11 kills and Gabby Arocha led in assists.
Memorial will play in the East Chambers tournament starting Thursday and host West Orange-Stark on Friday.

PNG 3, BRIDGE CITY 0
BRIDGE CITY — Port Neches-Groves left little, if any, doubt Tuesday night how strong the team is.
The Rock-A-Noos cruised to a 25-12, 25-13, 25-13 win over Bridge City, but statistics for PNG were unavailable. Bridge City was led by Reyna Owens and Mikeala Glover with three kills apiece, Aleah McClanahan with nine digs, Rhoni Richard with two aces and Owens with seven digs.
PNG will play in the Huffman tournament Thursday and Saturday and visit Silsbee on Friday night.

BOB HOPE 3, HIGH ISLAND 0
In Port Arthur, Bob Hope opened its season with a four-set win over High Island.
HI took a 25-22 win in the opener, but Bob Hope stormed back with 25-17, 25-15 and 25-21 decisions. Vanessa Estupinan, Kimberly Rodriguez, Xuan Vasquez and Elsy Martinez were key players in the win.
Bob Hope’s JV team beat High Island in two sets.
Next for the Eagles is the Baytown Christian tournament starting Thursday.
