Indians sixth, Titans eighth in regional poll

District 22-5A co-champions Port Neches-Groves and Port Arthur Memorial are ranked sixth and eighth, respectively, in the first 5A Region III poll of the Texas High School Coaches Association polls, released Monday.

Both teams reached the regional semifinal round of their 5A playoffs last season. Memorial fell to now-No. 3 Temple in Division I, and PNG was beaten by now-No. 4 College Station in Division II. The other top-five teams in the poll are No. 1 Manvel, No. 2 Cedar Park and No. 5 Fort Bend Marshall.

Crosby is No. 7.

In other coaches’ polls involving area teams: West Orange-Stark is No. 1 in 4A Division II Region III, with Hardin-Jefferson No. 5 and Orangefield No. 11; in 4A D-I Region III, Bridge City is No. 6; and in 6A Region II, West Brook is No. 10.

This season marks the last for classes 5A and 6A before they are broken into divisions for regular-season play, such as the lower four classes.
