CFL Hall of Famer bringing camp to PA

The weekend of football stars in Port Arthur has just been extended.
Canadian Football League Hall of Famer Don Narcisse, a 1983 Lincoln High School graduate, will hold a ffree ootball camp called the “Don Narcisse All-Star Event” for ages 6-18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 14 at Memorial Stadium.
Narcisse played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders for his entire CFL career (1987-99) as a wide receiver after starring at Texas Southern. At 5-feet-9 and 170 pounds, Narcisse won a Grey Cup — the league’s championship — in 1989, was named CFL All-Star four times and was CFL West Division All-Star five times.
Narcisse’s career statistics include 12,366 yards and 75 touchdowns on 919 receptions. He led the CFL in receptions with 123 in 1995.
The Leader Post newspaper of Regina, Saskatchewan, ranked Narcisse seventh out of the 50 greatest Roughrider players.
Twice he played in the Grey Cup, where he totaled 158 yards and a touchdown on 12 catches. Saskatchewan lost in 1997.
“I played for 13 years, and one thing I’ve always liked to do is give back to the kids,” Narcisse said. “I’ve done a camp for seven years, but I decided I would come home and do one for the kids.”
Narcisse said the camp, which will feature New England Patriots linebacker Elandon Roberts, is more about life skills than about football. Roberts is hosting a heart walk and 7-on-7 tournament featuring fellow NFL stars including Tampa Bay wide receiver Mike Evans and former Atlanta defensive lineman Jonathan Babineaux starting at 8 a.m. July 15 at Memorial Stadium.
“It’s really about getting off the sidelines and getting into the game,” Narcisse said. “The game could be anything. It can be the game of life.”
Registration for the camp is available by visiting the HONEY Foundation’s website: honeyfoundationinc.org. Lunch will be served.
