Police seek tips on location of missing veteran

Ronald Jacobs Sr. never left home without his walking cane but some time around Nov. 1, 2016, he did and now police are seeking clues to the military veteran’s whereabouts.

Jacobs, who was 68 at the time of his disappearance, is dependent on the cane due to a stroke. The cane and all the rest of his belongings were left behind at his home in the 300 block of Gulfway Drive almost seven months ago when he was reported missing, Port Arthur Police Sgt. Steve Davis said.

“His family reported him missing when he failed to make a doctors appointment in Houston,” Davis said.

Officer Mike Hebert said police received an anonymous tip that foul play may be involved in Jacobs’ disappearance.

“There are no cognitive issues with him,” Hebert said. “But everywhere he went he had to be brought. He frequented places in Louisiana. We followed up on this and there is no record of him being there.”

Jacobs had been missing for several days when his disappearance was reported. Police have been told he is a military veteran and had possibly served in the Vietnam War. He has family in the area as well as in Louisiana, which is why he frequented the neighboring state.

“This would be very out of the ordinary for him to be gone this long,” Hebert said. “He never returned to his house and all of his possessions were at the house, even his cane.”

Davis said that phone calls were made to Jacobs on the night of Oct. 31, 2016. No further information was available regarding this.

“We believe there are people in the community that know things and they need to come forward. We’re hoping that by bringing this story up, it will give courage for people to call us or Crime Stoppers. There is a lot of talk in the community,” Davis said. “We want to hear it.”

Persons with information about the disappearance or whereabouts of Ronald Jacobs Sr. are asked to call PAPD at 983-8680 or Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas at 833-TIPS.

“We are pleading for information,” Davis said. “This is an active, ongoing, fluid investigation. It’s not something where we just read a report and put it on the back burner.”
