University of Texas center Jarrett Allen was picked 22nd overall Thursday by the Brooklyn Nets in the franchise’s home arena — the Barclays Center.
Allen is the son of Leonard Allen, a former professional player who helped Lincoln win its first UIL state basketball championship in 1981. Leonard Allen was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in 1985 after a four-year career at San Diego State, but also spent time in Spain.
Jarrett Allen was a 6-foot-11, 235-pound freshman this past season for the Longhorns. He averaged 13.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 56.6 percent from the floor. His best game in a UT uniform was 22 points and 19 rebounds in a Jan. 21 loss at Kansas.
The younger Allen prepped at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Round Rock. His brother Leonard, a 2013 Round Rock High graduate, verbally committed to Baylor in April, but last played at San Diego City College in 2015-16, according to the Waco Tribune-Herald.
