HUNTSVILLE — The Lorena Lady Leopards downed the Bridge City Lady Cardinals 4-0  in Game 1 of their best-of-three Class 4A Region III semifinal series at Sam Houston State University on Friday night.

Game 2 is Saturday at noon back at SHSU as the teams will look to beat the weather with Game 3 to follow if necessary.

The Lady Leopards (26-3) tallied all four runs in the first inning after a grand slam laced by Rachel Williams off Lady Cardinal standout pitcher Kassidy Wilbur.

Wilbur settled in after that as she allowed just one more hit the rest of the way. She pitched six innings, allowing three hits while striking out 11.

Peyton Trapp pitched the seventh inning for the Lady Cardinals (28-6), allowing no hits while fanning three.

Williams pitched for the Lady Leopards and allowed just one hit.
