PORT NECHES — Nederland had a day to remember at the Reservation.
Wearing the black Nederland jersey one last time, Madison Ledet powered the South team with two goals Friday in a 3-1 win over the North in the Southeast Texas Senior Showcase.
Jace Edgar scored the lone goal for the South boys in a 1-0 win over the North later in the evening.
For Lamar soccer fans, it was a preview of future teammates working together on the same field after four years as rivals. Port Neches-Groves’ Hailey Loupe, a friend of Ledet’s who’s teaming up with her in Beaumont, scored the other South goal.
Krystal Kraus of Jasper added long goal for the North.
Kennedy Kieschnick and Emma Roccaforte also represented Nederland on the South. Grettel Vazuez and Julisa Tejada were Port Arthur Memorial’s all-stars.
PNG’s Christian Davalos hit the crossbar three times, but the South’s defense prevailed as Lumberton midfielder Michael Barroeta headed a shot just over the crossbar as time expired.
Between games, retiring West Brook coach Don Smith was honored for his 25 years of coaching high school soccer. He spent his first six years at Silsbee before moving to Beaumont.
Smith coached the North boys. PNG’s Chad Luttrull and Vidor’s Matt Wedel led the South.
