NEDERLAND — Barbers Hill is so good, Nederland could not muster a run against the Eagles.

A potential tying run reached to lead off the bottom of the seventh, but defense rose again for the Eagles and preserved a 1-0 win Saturday to clinch the best-of-three 5A bi-district baseball series in two games. Barbers Hill won 4-0 Friday in Mont Belvieu.

Nederland’s season ended at 13-15-2.

Caine Williams made it to first base after swinging on three straight strikes, giving Nederland some hope to start the seventh. Chandler Lancon sacrified on a bunt and was thrown out at first, but Landon Hiltz’s pop out and Marcus Foreman’s groundout ended the game.

BH took a 1-0 lead in the top of the seventh on a one-out single. It was the fifth and last hit for the Eagles.

Chase Kemp knocked two of Nederland’s three hits, with Williams providing the other.

Brendan Dunkleberger allowed the lone run on five hits and struck out five in a complete-game effort.
