Sabine Pass’ Battise victorious in 2A area shot

DEWEYVILLE — Sabine Pass qualified for the 2A Region III meet in eight events during Thursday’s area meet.

Baylee Battise gave Sabine Pass its only victory of the day, throwing the shot put in 32 feet, ½ inch. She finished 1-3 ½ ahead of the second-place athlete from Evadale.

Sabine Pass’ girls athletes earned two silver medals in the 4×100- (53.91) and 4×200-meter (1:54.11) relays. Joanna Smolsky was third for the Sharks in the 100 hurdles with a time of 18.11 seconds, and the Sharks’ 4×400 team took fourth.

On the boys’ side, Jamyus Jones is going to the the regional meet in the long jump and 100 meters. His fourth-place jump was measured at 20-1/2, and he took third in the 100 at 11.90 seconds, just 0.01 ahead of teammate Tim Fontenette.

Team results were not available.

The 2A Region III meet is set for April 28-29 in Palestine.
