Alabama football coach Nick Saban issued a statement Friday concerning one of his players, a West Orange-Stark graduate.

A warrant was issued for Deionte Thompson, 20, on felony aggravated assault charges stemming from a spring break incident on Crystal Beach that resulted in multiple injuries to Noah Frillou, 18, according to KBMT-TV. Daletredricc Wolfford, 21, and Thompson turned themselves into county authorities in Tuscaloosa County, Ala., and Orange County, Texas, respectively, according to the station, while Morris Joseph and Rufus Joseph, both 18, are still being sought by deputies on similar charges.

“We are still in the process of gathering all of the facts in Deionte’s situation,” Saban said. “He has been excused today (Friday) to cooperate with law enforcement in this matter.

“Once we have a better understanding of what happened, we will make a determination as to what needs to be done in terms of the appropriate course of action moving forward.”

Thompson, a defensive back, was a senior on the 2014 West Orange-Stark football team that reached the 4A Division II state championship.  Morris Joseph and Rufus Joseph, both current seniors at WOS, have won back-to-back state championships with the Mustangs.
