NEDERLAND — A longtime Nederland community leader has decided to step down.

Wanda Hollier, manager of the Nederland Heritage Festival, tendered her resignation after the completion of the festival in March 2016, according Mike Laird, president of the foundation board. Their website says Shannon Hemby is interim manager of the NHF.

Hollier first volunteered with the festival in 1984. She became manager in 1998. Laird became involved with the festival in 1986.

During a telephone interview, Hollier said she resigned due to personal issues.

Laird said Hollier was great to work with and she handled different aspects of the festival.

“She grew the festival,” he said.

There wasn’t a going-away get-together for Hollier when she resigned. Laird said some people don’t want the recognition.

The foundation board will meet later this summer to decide on a manager of the NHF and to audit their finances and operations and “go from there.”

NHF’s last IRS Form 990 was filed in August 2015. Their Form 990 amount was $332,264 as a cultural, ethnic awareness community service organization.

A Form 990 is required for tax-exempt organizations, nonexempt charitable trusts, and Section 527 political organizations to file this form to provide the IRS with this information.

Nederland Heritage Festival is a 501 c3 organization that normally receives no more than one-third of its support from gross investment income and unrelated business income and at the same time more than one-third of its support from contributions, fees, and gross receipts related to exempt purposes.
