Texas Southern sophomore and Port Arthur Memorial alumna Joyce Kennerson earned another honor for her performance during a SWAC regular-season and tournament championship run.

Kennerson was one of seven players named to the Boxtorow Division I All-America first team, it was announced Monday. The list honors the top players among major historically black colleges and universities.

Boxtorow is short for the nationally syndicated radio show, “From the Press Box to Press Row”.

Kennerson averaged 18.3 points per game, shot 40.6 percent from the field and made 74.1 percent of her free throws as the Tigers’ point guard. She was named MVP of the SWAC tournament at the Toyota Center in Houston, helping the Tigers win that championship for the first time in school history. Texas Southern has shared the past three SWAC regular-season titles.
