April 19, 1927 – March 24, 2017

Dr. Mattie S.  Londow, of Port Arthur, Texas transitioned to her heavenly home Friday, March 24, 2017.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 1, 2017 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 821 Freeman (formerly Texas) Ave.  Rev. David L. Daviss, Sr., pastor of St. Paul UMC will be officiating.  Visitation will be held 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Friday, March 31, 2017 at St. Paul UMC.  Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hannah Funeral Home, Inc.

Mattie was born in El Campo, Texas on April 19, 1927.  She graduated from 

F. W. Gross High School in Victoria, TX and continued to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and a Master of Science Degree in Education from Prairie View A&M College, Prairie View, TX and a PhD. in Education from Texas Woman’s University, Denton, Texas.

Dr. Londow was an Administrator and Teacher for the Port Arthur Independent School District; an Associate Professor at Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; an Associate Professor and Professor at Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, Texas; and an Administrator and Trustee for the Port Arthur Independent School District.

Mattie chose St. Paul United Methodist Church as her church home.  Here she reared her family while she served in various ministries in the church.

Mattie was married to the late Robert (Bob) Londow.  They had two children, Kenneth Londow, Sr. and Veronica Londow-Mayo.

Dr. Londow is survived by her children, Kenneth (Deon) Londow, Sr. and Veronica Londow-Mayo, grandchildren, Kenneth Londow, II and Katherine Londow, great-grandchild, Kamiryn Londow, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Dr. Londow was also preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Stewart, her step-father Reverend Lester Stewart and her father Dennis Scott, Sr.
