GROVES — Crawfish lovers have a chance to fill up and compete for a cash prize during a crawfish eating contest at Clayboy’s BBQ Pitstop.

The contest is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15 and the entry fee is $30 per person. First prize is $500.

“Whoever eats the most in 45 minutes wins,” Clay Pelloat, owner of Clayboy’s, said.

Boiled crawfish will be brought out, five pounds at a time, to the contestants, then the plates refilled as the tally is taken.

There will also be a raffle for a crawfish cooker and live music by Tony Faulk during the event.

“People can also come to watch. We’re hoping for a pretty big crowd,” he said. “We’re bringing in a cooker that can boil 1,000 pounds at a time and will be selling crawfish all day.”

Pelloat hopes to make the crawfish eating contest an annual event and said he set this year’s date as one day after Good Friday and one day before Easter.

Ronnie Boneau, executive director of the Groves Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Center, said the chamber wishes Pelloat, and Clayboy’s, well.

“We’re pulling for him and hope he has a good turnout,” Boneau said.

Clayboy’s BBQ Pitstop is located at 4801 Main Ave. in Groves.
