PORT NECHES — Brandon Petix enjoyed his finest hour as a Port Neches-Groves pitcher Friday.

Petix sat down the minimum 15 batters in five innings for a perfect game, and the Indians scored 15 runs in the third inning of a 21-0 rout of Ozen in District 22-5A action. Petix struck out 10 Indians in 57 pitches, 68.4 percent of which resulted in strikes.

Brandon Morse highlighted the offensive onslaught with a grand slam, his only hit of the game. Holden Lane went 4 for 4 with a double and drove in five runs, while Logan LeJeune, Austin Bost and Jacob Vaughn each had two hits. Bost also doubled and drove in two runs.

Alec LeBouef, Dylan McGough, Braxton Boudoin and Cameron Stansberry accounted for the rest of PNG’s 15 hits. Ozen committed three errors.

The Indians (10-5-1, 2-0 in 22-5A) completed the week’s sweep of the Panthers, following a 13-0 win Tuesday in Beaumont behind the combined no-hitter of Josh Hranicky and Nathan Vidrine. That game also went five innings.

PNG will visit Vidor on Tuesday and host the Pirates on Friday.

Lumberton 2 (Fri.)

NEDERLAND — A one-out single by Dane Jones scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning, and the Bulldogs hung on to beat the Raiders, avenging a 3-0 loss at Lumberton on Tuesday.

Brendon Dunkleberger sat down the Lumberton side in order in the seventh, even catching a pop-up to end a complete-game victory. He threw strikes on 72.3 percent of his pitches and struck out five while holding Lumberton to no earned runs on four hits.

Chase Kemp went 2 for 3 to lead Nederland. Burke Badon, Conor McGrath, Marcus Foreman and Jones each signed. Badon drove in two runs in the fourth to tie the game at 2.

Nederland faces Beaumont Central there on Tuesday and at home Friday.

Livingston 13,

PA Memorial 2 (Fri.)

LIVINGSTON — Friday’s rematch of a 6-2 Livingston victory in Port Arthur didn’t go all that well for the Titans (6-7, 0-2 in 22-5A).

The Titans gave up four runs in the seventh inning Tuesday to determine the outcome. Three days later, the Lions (2-0 in 22-5A) didn’t let up on Memorial.

Memorial’s Carlos Granados walked twice and drove in a run. Roberto Collazo and J.P. Fernandez each had a hit, with Collazo’s knock a double. Josue Rodriguez also batted in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Memorial will host Lumberton on Tuesday and go there Friday.

TITANS WIN TWO EVENTS AT TEXAS SOUTHERN

HOUSTON — The Texas Southern Relays is a way for Memorial coach Darrell Granger to see how his team stacks against potential state-meet competition.

Granger liked what he saw from the Titans the past two days. Memorial won two events and placed in others as the meet came to a close Saturday.

Kary Vincent Jr. won the 200 meters in 21.24 seconds and was part of a 4×100-meter team that shaved its season-best time by 0.03 second. Ireon Brown, Vincent, Xavier Hull and De’Andre Angelle turned in a time of 41.06 to win.

The sprint medley team of D’Angelo Alexander, Gregory Laday, Adrian Wiliams and Lamont Freeman came in fourth at 3:41.47. The sprint medley is a race of two shorter sprints followed by two longer sprints.

The 4×400 team of JaQuan Francois, Brown, Hull and Allen Santos came in fourth in 3:17.09. The 4×200 team, same as the 4×100 unit, qualified for the final with a 1:27.5 time, but Granger held them out of the final to keep the runners fresh.
