Dorothy Covington Ferrett “Maw Maw”, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the Aboretum of Winnie. Dorothy was born July 10, 1919 in Beaumont, Texas to Rita Guidry and Tom Covington. She married Ansel J. Ferrett, June 20, 1936. Dorothy was also a long-time member of St. James Catholic Church, Port Arthur.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Rita Guidry and Tom Covington; husband, Ansel J. Ferrett; and son, James Dale Ferrett. She is survived by her son, William E. Ferrett, Sr. and his wife, Frances of Crystal Beach; grandchildren, Kim Ransonette, Bill Ferrett, Jr., Kelli Ross, Keri Seale, James Stowers, and Tracy Breiner; great-grandchildren, Sean Ransonette, Phillip Fischer, Samantha Ferrett, Trey Ross, Zachary Ferrett, Christian Ransonette, Drew Ross, Tyler Seal, Kendall Seale, Cade Seale, Nicholas Ferrett and Harley Ferrett; great-great grandchildren, Kayden Douglas, Riley Douglas and Fiora Fischer; and one half-brother, John Webster.
Dorothy always had a smile on her face and treated everyone with love and kindness. She created many wonderful memories for her family over the years. She was a wonderful cook (famous for her spaghetti and cheese) and enjoyed having family dinners. She loved to craft and often shared her latest talents with family and friends. She could sew, embroider, knit, crochet, make ceramics, oil and tole paint, garden and much more. She was always learning new things. She volunteered at Mid Jeff Hospital and the Medical Center of Southeast Texas into her 90’s and loved having lunch with her friends on a regular basis. Dorothy and her husband, Ansel, were best friends for 59 years. After his death, almost 22 years ago, her son Bill became her best friend. He treated her like a queen and she treated him like a prince. Dorothy often said she lived a good life, but she made life great for so many people. She will be missed.
A gathering of friends and family will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at, 5:00 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. The celebration of Ms. Dorothy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
