PREP ROUNDUP: Indians seal outright 22-5A soccer championship

LUMBERTON — The deal is done.

Preston Hughes and Colton Stone connected on goals, and Port Neches-Groves wrapped up its second District 22-5A championship in four years Tuesday night with a 2-0 victory at Lumberton.

The Indians (19-1-2, 12-0) earned their 36th point in district play, and their lead over second-place Lumberton (24) is now insurmountable with two games remaining. Hughes recorded his 20th goal of the season.

GIRLS SOCCER

NEDERLAND 3, VIDOR 0

NEDERLAND — Madison Ledet scored a goal and made an assist on Senior Night, and the Bulldogs (15-2-2, 9-2-1 in 22-5A) blanked the Pirates on Wednesday in a game rescheduled from Tuesday due to the weather.

Phoebe Short also scored, and Lauryn Hughes had another assist for Nederland, which will visit Livingston at 4 p.m. Friday.

SOFTBALL

PNG 14, VIDOR 0 (5 INN., TUE.)

PORT NECHES — Kaitlyn Boudreaux launched a three-run home run as part of a seven-run first inning, and the Indians refused to let up on the Pirates (12-5, 2-0 in 22-5A) in a 14-run blowout.

Britni Hunt struck out eight in five innings while tossing the no-hitter. She walked four.

Boudreaux also scored two runs and stole a base. Alexis LaBure, who went 2 for 3, had a double and scored a run.

Rachel Hammersmith, Brooke Smith and Callie Jourdan each had two hits as well. Hammersmith stole two bases and drove in a run. Smith batted in two runs and stole a base, as did Jourdan.

Hannah Denman (run) and Bayja Newby (two runs, RBI) each had a hit.

PNG will visit Nederland on Friday.

NEDERLAND 15, CENTRAL 0 (3 INN., TUE.)

NEDERLAND — Hannah Goode, Hannah Smith and Victoria Garza each had two hits, but Destini Trahan didn’t allow any through three innings Tuesday.

Trahan struck out seven in the win. Bailey Beard homered and finished with two RBI, while Goode drove in three runs, Kassidy Litchfield two and Smith two.

Jessica Saenz, Hannah Grumbles, Brittany Taylor, Trahan and Litchfield each had a hit.

Also Tuesday: In baseball, Big Sandy beat Sabine Pass 11-0.
