PREP ROUNDUP: Memorial earns three wins at YMBL/BISD

BEAUMONT — Jamiyah Dixon and Aniyah Duhon each won individual events, and the Port Arthur Memorial 4×100-meter relay team also took home a victory Saturday in the Young Men’s Business League/Beaumont ISD meet at Babe Zaharias Stadium.

Dixon won the triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, 10 inches, beating East Chambers’ Emily Johnson by an inch. Duhon ran the 400 meters in 1:03.72, beating Leslie Moreno of Deer Park by 1.05 seconds. Kennedy Sanders and Da’ja Bernard were fifth and sixth in that race.

The 4×100 team of Duhon, Zykirra Cabarras, Coreyanna Gorrer and Capri Wilson beat Central to the line with a time of 49.26 seconds. Central’s time was 49.39.

Cabarras and Wilson took second and third in the 100-meter dash.

Millicent Neveu was fourth for the Titans in the 300 hurdles. She teamed with Cabarras, Dixon and Bernard on the third-place 4×400 team.

Anderson was sixth in the 800.

For Nederland, Gabrielle Gutierrez finished second in the 100-meter hurdles, third in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump; Mackenzie MacFarlane came in third in the pole vault; Karley McGill came in third in the 800; Rachel Morrison and Macie Saleme were fourth and fifth in the 1,600; Morrison was third in the 3,200; Ashley Kimey took fourth in the discus throw; the 4×200 team came in fourth; and the 4×400 team was fifth.

TITANS TAKE THIRD IN C.L. HANNA RELAYS

DICKINSON — Port Arthur Memorial won three events and finished third in team standings Saturday at the C.L. Hanna Relays.

Reigning 6A state champion Kary Vincent Jr. won the 200 meters in 21.3 seconds. He turned in a personal record of 21.01 at last year’s state meet in Austin.

Memorial is a 5A school this year.

De’Andre Angelle led off the winning 4×100-meter Titans on Saturday, with Vincent running second, Ireon Brown third and Xavier Hull the anchor leg. The same crew won the 4×200, with Brown leading off, Angelle second, Vincent third and Hull fourth.

J’Koven Celestine took second in the long jump, Lamont Freeman Jr. was third in the 800, Santos Allen was fourth and the Memorial 4×400 team (Hull, Gregory Laday, Santos Allen and Tyvionne Allen) came in third.

Klein Oak and Manvel Shadow Creek took first and second in team standings.

Next for Memorial is the Meet of Champions on Thursday at Katy High School.

SOFTBALL

NEDERLAND 5, HARDIN O

LIBERTY — Amanda Longlet threw a six-inning no-hitter, and Nederland tagged seven hits of its own Saturday in the Liberty/Huffman tournament.

Lexi Eversole and Hannah Grumbles each had two hits to lead Nederland. Eversole drove in three runs.

Madelyn Daniel, Victoria Garza and Longlet accounted for the other hits.

NEDERLAND 10, LIBERTY 6

LIBERTY — Both teams brought much of the offense in the first inning, but Nederland hardly cooled off on its way to a second victory Saturday.

The Bulldogs (9-9-1) won the six-inning affair failing to score only in the second inning. They tallied three runs each in the first, third and fourth innings and one run in the fifth.

Hannah Smith went 3 for 4, while Lexi Eversole, Hannah Grumbles, Amanda Longlet and Jessica Saenz each totaled two. Madelyn Daniel and Bailey Beard each had a hit as well. Grumbles and Longlet each drove in two runs.

Saenz struck out five and allowed three earned runs on six hits. She fanned five.

Madison Frazier homered for Liberty.

BASEBALL

PA MEMORIAL 7, WARREN 6 (FRI.)

FANNETT — Amari Lewis went 3 for 4 at the plate, and Memorial won its fifth game of the season Friday at the Hamshire-Fannett tournament.

Ramir Cibrian batted 2 for 4, while Carlos Granados (2 RBI), David Torres, Roberto Collazo, J.P. Fernandez and Daniel Mitchell each added a hit. Collazo threw six innings and held Warren to three earned runs on four hits, striking out three.

But Van Ellas, who threw a one-hit, scoreless inning, earned the victory.

HAMSHIRE-FANNETT 9, PA MEMORIAL 8

FANNETT — Carlos Granados drove in three runs and hit 3 for 4, but the Longhorns got the better of the Titans (5-3) on Friday.

David Torres batted in two runs. J.P. Fernandez (one RBI), Roberto Collazo, Ramiro Cibrian and Miguel Martinez each had a hit.

Memorial will host Orangefield at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

PNG 1, CY CREEK 0 (FRI.)

CROSBY — Nathan Vidrine held Cypress Creek to only three hits and struck out six in a complete-game win at the Crosby tournament.

Leadoff man Hayden Guerra had two hits for the Indians. Austin Bost, Vidrine, Trevor Martin and Jacob Vaughn each added a hit.

PNG also was to play Dickinson, Cypress Falls and Crosby this weekend. The Indians will take on Houston Westside on Thursday in Lufkin.

Also Saturday: Silsbee’s junior varsity beat Sabine Pass 10-8 despite a 3-for-3 outing from Logan Odom.
