PA City Council to decide on new city logo and slogan

After several months of planning and discussions there will be a vote on a new logo and slogan for the city of Port Arthur.
The Port Arthur City Council will hold their regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at city hall, 444 Fourth St. in Port Arthur.
The resolution stated the city council entered in a contract with e.Sullivan Advertising of Port Neches to create a new logo and slogan for the city.
e.Sullivan completed the task and wants to submit the proposed logos for consideration by the council.
The council will also consider terminating the contract with the Parker Law Firm.
The resolution reads the city entered into a contract with the Parker Law Firm to continue to provide legal services, consultation and serve as a legislative legal representative for Port Arthur.
Willie “Bae” Lewis Jr., District 5 councilman, requested the contract with the firm be terminated with the required 30 days written notice.
Lewis, likewise, is requesting a payment be made by the city to the law firm of Langston Scott Adams.
The firm represented the plaintiffs in the matter of Reginald Trainer, Efrain Avendano, Paul Hulin and Herman Levingston vs. the city of Port Arthur in the 172nd District Court of Jefferson County pertaining to Edison Square Apartments.
On Jan. 24, 2017 the court entered judgment in this matter for $50,737 for the attorneys’ fees, according to the resolution.
The city filed a motion for reconsideration of the judgment that was heard on Feb. 15, 2017. On Feb. 22 the court entered and order granting the city’s motion to reconsider the matter based on the city’s objection to the payment of attorneys’ fees.
A hearing has been set on March 20. The amount of the attorneys’ fees is a fact of issue the court will determine at that time.
The council will also consider awarding a contract to MLG Construction of Houston as low bidder in the demolition of eight dangerous residential structures for $25,100.
The structures to be demolished are located at:
- 330 W. Ninth St.
- 718 Harding Ave.
- 1034 Herget Ave.
- 1420 W. Fifth St.
- 1149 W. Fifth St.
- 435 W. 18th St.
- 328 E. 15th St.
- 1136 E. Gulfway Dr.
Lark Group, Inc., furthermore, was awarded as low bidder at $25,900 for the demolition of six dangerous residential structures.
The structures to be demolished are located at:
- 1210 Thomas Blvd.
- 2119 Rev. Dr. Ransom Howard St.
- 3708 Fifth St.
- 3800 Lewis Dr.
- 5136 Fourth St.
- 1903 Duff Dr.
There is also a special meeting workshop scheduled at 3 p.m. to discuss potential changes to the city’s code of ordinance regarding gaming sites and machines, more specifically eight-liners.
