LSCPA 7, Northeast Texas CC 5 (8 innings)

Northeast Texas CC came back from a 4-0 deficit after three innings, tying Saturday’s early game with the Seahawks with three runs in the fifth and a clutch game-tying run in the seventh to send the contest into extra innings.

The Seahawks would get the last word, though, as they collected three runs in the top of the eighth then made a defensive stand in the bottom half of the inning for the win.

The eighth inning for the Seahawks featured a two-run homer by Morgan Chavarria. Savana Guidry followed that up with a single, reaching second with a stolen base, then coming home on a NTCC fielding error for the 7-4 advantage.

NTCC scored a run in the bottom of the eighth on a fielder’s choice but a final groundout ended the game in favor of the Hawks.

McKenzie Andrus was a master at the plate, going 4 for 4 with two doubles, a run batted in and two runs scored. Chavarria finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs on her home run shot, a walk and a run scored. Kayla Sheridan and Regan Dowers, who each had two hits, each doubled for the Seahawks. Sheridan had two stolen bases while Marisol Ynfante and Guidry each had a base theft in the game.

Ashley May, who came to the mound in relief in the seventh inning, came away with the win. She allowed one hit with one strikeout. Cameron Greaves threw four innings as the starter, allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts. Briana White worked 2 1/2 innings on the mound, allowing two earned runs on four hits.

LSCPA 6, Trinity Valley CC 5

The Seahawks picked up a big cross-conference win in a back-and-forth affair that saw LSCPA take a one-run lead after scoring two in the sixth. The defense went to work in the seventh to preserve the win.

May opened the sixth inning with a home run to right field then C. Moreno slapped an RBI single to center field to plate Ynfante, pinch-running for Dowers who had reached after a single. Ynfante moved to second after M. Cowart was hit by a pitch, then took third on a passed ball.

The Seahawks’ defense held strong through the sixth and seventh innings to maintain the victory.

May had a great day at the plate, going 3 for 3 with two home runs, while Guidry was 2 for 3 with a double. Sheridan and Chavarria each had a stolen base.

May pitched a complete-game victory, allowing five earned runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking one. She moved her pitching record to 8-7 for the season with one save.
