KOUNTZE — Port Arthur Memorial’s baseball season started off strong Thursday behind the arms of David Torres and Carlos Granados.

Torres and Granado scattered seven hits over 4 2/3 innings and combined to strike out three in Memorial’s 12-7 win over Liberty in the Kountze tournament. Granados got the win after 1 1/3 innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Roberto Collazo batted 2 for 3 with a run driven in to lead Memorial (1-0). He hit a double.

Ramiro Cibrian, J.P. Fernandez and Riyad Antoine each added a hit. Cibrian drove in two runs, and Antoine one.

The Titans will play Spurger at 10:30 a.m. today and face Kountze and Splendora at 4 and 7 p.m. Saturday.

NEDERLAND 9,

BRAZOSWOOD 8

SANTA FE — Dane Jones hit a walk-off single to open Nederland’s baseball season with a 9-8 win over Brazoswood on Thursday in the Santa Fe tournament.

The hit completed a six-run comeback in the inning by the Bulldogs. They drew two walks before striking out for the second out, but Burke Badon kept them alive with a single. Jones was forced home on a walk, and Brandon Cluck doubled to left field to bring in three runs. Ryan Hebert batted in a run on a single, and Nederland drew two more walks to bring Jones back up for the win.

Caine Williams and Badon each ahd two hits. Cluck finished with three RBI and Williams two, while Conor McGrath and Jones each scored two runs.

Chandler Lancon earned the win after pitching an inning, allowing a hit. Starter Braydon Credeur was tagged for six earned runs on three hits with five walks, but struck out one.

ALVIN 4, NEDERLAND 3

SANTA FE — Also at the Santa Fe tournament, Nederland could not come up with more late-game heroics to avoid its first defeat.

Nederland tied the game at 2-2 in the third and took the lead with a run in the fourth before Alvin changed the lead with a two-run fifth.

The Bulldogs (1-1) had six hits to the Yellow Jackets’ four. Despite a solid five-inning performance (four runs on four hits and two strikeouts), Braydon Credeur suffered the loss.

Austin Junot threw a perfect inning for the Bulldogs.

Conor McGrath and Caine Williams each had two hits, and Chase Kemp doubled for Nederland.

PNG 9, CLEAR SPRINGS 0

LEAGUE CITY — At the Clear Creek ISD tournament, three home runs powered Port Neches-Groves to a five-inning shutout win.

Kaitlyn Boudreaux smashed a two-run shot in the third, and Kasidee Sartin launched a solo shot later in the frame. Alexis LaBure smacked a three-run homer in the fourth.

LaBure and Marlee Barnett each went 2 for 3, as Barnett drove in two runs of her own. In the circle, LaBure struck out six.

PNG 15, COLLEGE PARK 4

LEAGUE CITY — PNG’s offense exploded right off the bat with two five-run innings, setting the course for a five-inning blowout win in the Clear Creek ISD tournament.

Both teams were plagued with errors, however. PNG (7-3) was charged with five miscues, three fewer than College Park.

Britni Hunt was stellar in the circle with eight strikeouts, and Rachel Hammersmith led the offense with a 3-for-4 game including a triple. She drove in a run and scored two.

Also for PNG, Kasidee Sartin, Brooke Smith and Alexis LaBure each had two base knocks, as Sartin doubled twice, drove in two runs and scored two. Smith and LaBure each doubled once and drove in a run, as Smith stole a base scored two runs.

Sydnee Adams batted in a pair of runs, scored twice, stole a base and walked. Bailey Crorey scored a run as well.

PNG outhit College Park 18-4.

NEDERLAND 4,

NORTH SHORE 2

LEAGUE CITY — Two runs in the sixth inning made the difference for Nederland in a win over North Shore in the Clear Creek ISD tourney.

Bailey Beard hit a double to left field, scoring Lexi Eversole for the go-ahead run. An error at shortstop allowed Beard to add another score.

Destini Trahan allowed two earned runs on eight hits in a complete-game win. She struck out nine and walked three.

Nederland was held to three hits, with Hannah Grumbles, Trahan and Beard each lining one.

NEDERLAND 10,

LA PORTE 9 (9 INN.)

LEAGUE CITY — A ninth-inning single by Amanda Longlet gave Nederland (3-5) a second straight win at Clear Creek.

The hit was the Bulldogs’ 12th of the game, enough to make up for their three errors. LaPorte hit 11 and committed one miscue.

Each team scored three runs in the seventh to send the game to extras. Madelyn Daniel hit a one-run double, Destini Trahan singled in a run and Longlet smacked a triple to tie the game at 8-8.

Nederland needed another run in the eighth to tie the game, and Hannah Smith drove it in on a one-out single.

Daniel hit 3 for 5 with two runs. Gabby Fernandez, Smith, Grumbles and Longlet each knocked two hits, and Fernandez scored twice.
