PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Lamar freshman Elodie Chapelet picked up right where she left off at the end of the fall women’s golf season, as she tied for first place at the Ball State Sunshine Invitational to open the spring campaign for the Cards.
Chapelet, who had top-three finishes in all four events in the fall, finished in a tie with Toledo’s Thunpijja Sukkasem. There was no playoff. The two golfers finished at 15-over-par 231 for 54 holes on the challenging 6,074-yard, par-72 layout of the St. Lucie Trail Golf Club operated by the PGA of America.
Chapelet had the lead through 16 holes Saturday before carding a double bogey on the par-3 17th hole. Chapelet closed out with a par to finish the round at 78 and secure the tie.
“Despite finishing tied for first, I know Elodie is frustrated with her round today,” LU coach Jessica Steward said. “You can tell that when she plays, she wants to win. She plays with a lot of passion.”
